Red side-emitting LED in the 1606 footprint (1.7 × 1.1 × 0.6mm). Emission axis is parallel to the PCB surface — light projects laterally from the 1.1mm face rather than upward. Designed for edge-injection into panel light guides, membrane backlight systems, and light pipe assemblies where the LED must sit flat to the board with output directed horizontally into an adjacent optical element. Red emission at 617–625nm. Output 70–150mcd at 20mA, optimized for coupling efficiency rather than direct viewing. Operating temperature −40°C to +85°C.
Detailed electrical and optical characteristics
Side-emitting LED performance depends critically on package geometry — lateral aperture dimensions, emission angle, and die placement relative to the emitting face all determine coupling efficiency. Production variation between factories changes these parameters, affecting brightness at the light guide exit and requiring optical redesign when switching sources. CMH's controlled 1606 package geometry maintains consistent lateral output and beam alignment across all orders.
Lateral emission from 1.1mm face. For light pipe and edge-lit guide injection.
