Red side-emitting LED in the 0603 footprint. Unlike standard SMD LEDs, the emission axis of this package is parallel to the PCB surface — the LED emits laterally from the side face rather than upward from the top. A narrow 30° beam angle concentrates output into a forward cone optimized for coupling into light pipe apertures or injecting into the edge of a membrane light guide.
Mounts in a standard 0603 land pattern with the emitting face oriented toward the light pipe entrance. Drive current is typically 15–20mA to compensate for coupling losses (30–60% optical efficiency is typical in light pipe applications). Red emission at 620–630nm. Operating temperature −40°C to +85°C.
Detailed electrical and optical characteristics
Beam angle is the most factory-sensitive parameter in side-emitting LEDs — a 5–10° variation from a different production source directly changes coupling efficiency and the brightness seen at the light pipe exit. CMH's controlled die and package geometry for this series maintains the 30° beam angle consistently across orders, ensuring light pipe assemblies designed with one batch perform identically with all subsequent supply.
30° beam angle. Optimized for light pipe coupling and edge-lit backlight designs.
